This is one of those issues that can not be fixed. cause it is not really broken, you are either Pro Choice or Pro Life. There is no middle ground here, there is no way to please everyone. You can not move money around and solve this issue. This is an issue that effects only those involved, the mom, dad and unborn child. We do not become parents the day a child is born, we become parents the moment the child is conceived. If the world wants to hold us responsible for making the right decisions for our children as they grow and hold us accountable for their actions until they turn 18 that is fine, but the truth is the moment we conceive we are making choices and decisions for that child. A mother decides to eat better, stop drinking and or smoking. The father makes some of the same choices as parents we are charged with deciding what is best for our children this does not start when they are born. So having said that my stance on this is my stance like it or not it is what I believe to be right. Each of us must decide what is best for the child those who oppose abortion would not like those of us who do to step into their lives and tell them what is best for their children so they should not do that to us.
Everyday we go through life making decisions that will impact our lives forever. We are not judged on all of these choices by the public or the media. I will say I am pro choice I will not try to convince anyone that my stance is the right one, I will not try to convert the pro lifers to my side. All I have to say really about this issue is we are all free men and woman who have the right to decide what is best for ourselves and that of our children. Everything we do in life we do for a reason it is not always the most popular reason but to each of us what we decide to do is very important to us.
As a society all we can do is express our opinions and offer advise, but we do not have the right to tell others how to live their own lives. That is all I will say on that issue for now. I know many of you will not agree and many will. That is what makes being an American so great we are free to choose, free to decide, free to express our selves, but most of all we are free to decide what is best for our own children born or unborn. I agree with the choice anyone makes that is in the best interest of the child. I have three children and would not like anyone to come to my house and tell me how to raise them so why would I want anyone to come and tell me if I could have one or not

helping kids deal with stress during the recession
The recession takes it's toll on children just as much as it does on the parents, except with kids they do not have a very good understanding of why they can not continue to do the same things as before. My wife and I would never cook on Friday's we always ordered out or went out to eat every Friday. These past few months we have had to curb that now if we are lucky we can take the kids out or order in once a month.
To help our kids deal with that we have instituted movie night. We now rent a movie and make dinner together as a family every Friday and the kids seem to enjoy that a lot more then they did the dinners out or the Pizza being delivered. I have also found that I too enjoy it a lot more, there are many children's films that I have never seen and have enjoyed with the wife and kids. This is only one of the things that we are going to have to do in order to ride out this recession, with summer coming all the trips to the beaches and amusement parks will have to be trimmed if not cut out all together. So my wife and I have talked of ways to do more at the house and local parks with the kids. We are also lucky to have a very large back yard and as luck would have it two weeks ago we found a swing set in the want ad's for a very good price and decided to invest in it. The thought was playing at home is not only safer but cheaper, If there was any good that would come from this recession it is that sometimes us as parents lose site of the little things. My wife and I have always done things with the kids we do not even pay for day care we would rather work different schedules so one of us is always home with them, but being home with them and taking them to Disney Land is not the same as going in the back yard and pushing them in the swings or playing tag with them.
It is very easy to become over loaded and stressed out in these hard times and we understand why, imagine how the kids feel it is very important to explain it to the ones who are old enough to understand what is going on. As for the ones whom are too young to understand, sometimes a good tickle can cure a bad day. Even for us parents a good tickle can help cure the stress of a long day, try it if you don't believe me, go ahead I dare you!
I feel it is just as important for the parents to get away from the stress of the recession of course we can not do it for as long as the kids, but to spend a whole day in the back yard running around with them, laughing with and at them is the cheapest for of therapy, Lets face it not one parent who has kids and is suffering from this hard economic time has not thought about therapy in some way shape or form. So this kills two birds with one stone as they say. Spending time with the kids and relieving the stress of the long hard day, giving you both the strength to go another day.

The government takes control
America has survived many other economical depressions with our spirit and innovation, why is this one so different?, During every other depression our country has always forged ahead with innovation and advances in technology, America has always come out of a depression stronger, wiser and better prepared for the future not because during the depression we funneled more and more tax payer dollars into the very businesses and industries that sent us into the depression in the first place.
Our exit from any economical down time was due to new innovations, new industries, new ideas. So why are we funneling so much money into the very industries that have caused this depression?
I understand the need to save the jobs that these industries have produced millions of Americans rely on them to support their families. However many of these companies were founded during depression eras. When they were founded they were a contributing reason that America was able to grow, prosper and eventually escape the depression of that time period. Some of these companies may never have been started. If during other depressions the government focused all of their time and resources on saving the very companies that helped to bring about the depression in the first place. Historical fact during any depression it is and was never just a few random companies that caused the depression, Looking back in the times of our depressions the leading cause of the depression was a complete failure of industries. Today it’s the Automotive industry, the banking industry and the insurance industry. Every company in those industries is in jeopardy of bankruptcy, they are all laying off hundreds of thousands of workers thus having a direct effect on the current depression.
History is our greatest teacher, It is a road map to what went wrong and how it was corrected. We can not expect to emerge from the current depression stronger in the future if we are concentrating a very large amount of our resources to help prop up the very companies that contributed to the current depression. At some point we must ask the question, “what will stop these companies from going bankrupt as soon as the funds we have already gave them dissipate” ? One has to wonder if for all of the trillions of dollars our government is handing out, are we just delaying the inevitable? These companies are going bankrupt for a reason, they failed so why should we believe that they can or will save us from this depression. I for one feel we should focus a lot more of our time and resources on industries that will have a longer shelf life, ones that will become the next generation of the countries foundation and back bone. Our history teaches us that for every generation there has always been a small number of industries that have shaped and defined our country. None of those have spanned through the decades this teaches us that we can not rely on any one industry or any group of industries to carry our country into the future.
There have been a few industries that have and continue to be one of the building blocks of our country, there have also been some companies that have managed to survive and thrive over the decades. Each of these companies and the industries they represent have only been able to do this through innovation and by adapting and changing to fit the times. These companies have had too change their culture and the way they do business from the foundation up, the ones who continue to operate the same way they did twenty years ago, or have changed their business practices only slightly are the ones who share in the blame for the recession of their time. For our government to expand to much time and money to prop up these industries does not seem like the right way to go when looking at the future of the country. Why try to keep the very industries that have shown they can not support the economy over the long haul? Would it not be prudent to spend more on industries that we want to shape the country over the long haul?

Pro Life/ Pro Choice
This is one of those issues that can not be fixed. cause it is not really broken, you are either Pro Choice or Pro Life. There is no middle ground here, there is no way to please everyone. You can not move money around and solve this issue. This is an issue that effects only those involved, the mom, dad and unborn child. This has been a hot topic for as long as I can remember, Every President in the last 20 years has vowed to fix social security. To date none have ! How do you fix a system that is so far in over it's head ? What I don't get is how it is even in trouble in the first place. Social security was created to care for our seniors in their golden years because they would not be able to work to support them selves. We need social security it is the only system that we have to care for our seniors. The debates on this topic and the reasons that it is in trouble are all valid, all but one. Our government has stated that social security is in danger cause there are more people reaching the retirement age then ever before. I will say yes to that each year millions of Americans reach the target retirement age. But please correct me if I am wrong here but hasn't the number of people in the United States increased each year as well?
I am willing to bet that each year there are more people joining the work force then leaving it. Not only are there more Americans joining the work force each year then there are that retire, but there is also the hundreds of thousands that work here and pay taxes and are not eligible to collect social security cause they are not Americans.
Here is what I would do, first I would be smart enough to say we can not fix the social security system we have in place now. There is just no way, but since social security works kind of like a pyramid scam where we use the social security taxes of working people pay today to give benefits to those who have retired yesterday. In essence we are robbing Peter to pay Paul in the end Peter will run out of money. We need a new system one we can start from scratch one that will serve all those who will retire in the next 20 years. How do we do that and still pay out all we have to now? I don't think it would be that hard. First we group every single person who is collecting social security right now in one group. We then figure out how much we are going to need to meet our obligations to that group every year. Lets take a few round numbers here, Lets say there are 1 million people collecting social security right now at a cost of lets say 1 billion dollars a year. Where can we get that billion dollars a year from with out touching the social security taxes people are paying today? Well we can do that with taxes. No not raising taxes but rather using the taxes we already place on our working Americans. We tax everything and pool those taxes to help run the government, we need to stop that. Lets just say for an example we use the taxes we collect on toilet paper to help fund this endeavor. We already collect a sales tax on that item all we have to do is change it from a sales tax to a social security tax. We are all already paying that tax so we would not even feel it. I know toilet paper really? Yes really we need to make sure we use the taxes from things that we can not live with out. And unless you're a bear in the woods you need toilet paper. I can hear you all now by taking the taxes from that and using them for something else we are just short changing another area of government, Come on people we all know that if every dollar the federal government spent was looked at a lot closer we could find savings. Even I know it does not cost $100.00 for a hammer.
Keep in mind and this will be hard to read for some but this is not a forever program. With each passing year the amount we will be doling out in social security to this group will decrease as they pass away. The taxes we are still collecting from the working people today will be used to fund their social security in 20 years. As it stands we are just playing catch up every year and every year we are falling farther and farther behind. The government has been trying to fix social security forever now it's time we think out of the box.

My thoughts on immigration.
This like most issues is a very sensitive one, we must all remember that we all were at one time immigrants. It is my position that we must take great care as to just who and how many immigrants we allow to enter our country every year. It would be wise to have a numbers cap on how many immigrants we allow in each year. The process should also be an application process. We should try our best to weed out any bad apples before they are allowed in. The process should also have a six to twelve month waiting period for all applicants.
As much as no one would like to admit the United States can not allow anyone who wishes to come here to do so, we just do not have the natural resources to support all that life here. This is not the same country our ancestors immigrated to We were a very young country trying to build our numbers then today we are a nation that is finding our natural resources are getting depleted faster then we can restore them. We should not close our boarders to all many immigrants have had a profound effect on our society and the way we live today. We do however need to be much more vigilant today due to the natural resources we have. We must ensure that we are putting the best interests of the American citizens ahead of the needs and wants of the immigrants. As it stands there are plenty of rules and regulations for those who wish to come here, but once they are here the are afforded the same privileges as every other citizen, again it sounds harsh but must be said. This can not go on we need to put rules and restrictions in place. An immigrant who comes here must first show they deserve to stay. If they are arrested for anything at all they must be sent back to their native land and be bared from ever re-entering the U.S.
They must be here and be good citizens for at least 5 years before they are giving citizenship papers. We would need an entire rule book so to speak, one that would make the process better for everyone immigrants and citizens alike. They should be bared from owning any land or businesses in America until they are granted citizenship. Work visa's must also be limited and anyone here on one must re-apply every year. To some of you this might all sound so very bad but rest assured every single immigrant who desires to come here to better their lives will jump at the chance to do so, the ones who want to come here to cause trouble will not be allowed in or will be deported as soon as possible never to return. I am working on a list of the rules and regulations that I would institute and will post them here as soon as I am done.

Don't ask/Don't tell in the military
Don’t ask! Don’t tell!
In the military they say if you don’t tell us your gay we won’t ask if your gay. Last night my wife and I had a discussion on this topic while watching the movie swing vote. She feels they should get rid of that law, I say hell no. It may not be a just and fair law people should be allowed to be who and whatever they want in this date and age. It is however a law that does help more then it hurts.
My wife does not know what it is like to be gay or to grow up with a gay person very close to her. I on the other hand have had that experience My late brother Randy was gay He did not hide it very well and even thou my other brothers and I did not like the fact that he was gay we had no choice in the matter. It did cause a lot of problems for us in the house and in the neighborhood. We were always getting into fights cause of his sexual preference. As a family one learns early that blood is thicker then water and no matter what you stand up for each other, of course I would learn later in life that not everyone in the family got that lesson. Any way to make a long story short the don’t ask don’t tell rule prevents a lot of violence in the world. No matter what we do as a people there are always going to be people who disagree with our choices and who are scared by them. By stating openly that a person is gay might not be so bad until you put that person in the same locker room or shower room or in some cases the same state as one who opposes it. It is like backing a wild animal in a corner they will jump out in fear and attack. So for the safety and well being of all those who are in the armed forces and playing team sports or really just living their lives the don’t ask don’t tell rule is there not to hide them but to help them. Fear is an emotion that takes over ones body and mind and can make you do things you would never think of doing. Lets be realistic about it when was the last time we heard of a group of gay people jumping a straight one?
I have never heard of even one case but I have seen and heard of many so called gay bashings. No law will ever be able to contain the fear that lives in most, we could lock up everyone who participates in a crime against gay people and it will never stop the crimes from happening. So I say that until we find a cure for fear we need the don’t ask don’t tell rule. But that is just one mans opinion….

Two kids in a room/ silence is trouble
When you have two kids in a room and no one is crying you are in trouble! I learned this the hard way, my two girls ages 3 and nine were in their room playing while daddy was watching Lord of the Rings. Anyone who has seen it knows they are pretty long pictures, any way I didn’t think any thing of it the girls were quite and I was watching my movie. When it ended I went to check on them and was some what shocked and hungered by what I found. They decided they would make each other look beautiful, they did each other hair and makeup and put on dress clothes, it was all very cute, it really was right up to the point I asked my oldest Brittney what they used for hair gel? She said she didn’t know Alyssa my three year old brought something in to the room and said “we can use this daddy doesn’t like it” the it being Tapioca pudding!!
Keep in mind their hair was the first thing they did, do you have any idea how hard tapioca pudding gets after 3 hours? !!!! If I was a hair care producer I would bottle that stuff. Brittney’s hair was standing straight up on one side the other side was as flat as a board. I freaked out I had no idea what to do I put her in the shower and tried as hard as I could but I could not get all the rice out of her hair. She went to school for three days with rice in her hair. This is no lie her teacher sent home a note and I quote
“ Mr. Smith I do not know if you are aware but Brittney has some kind of growth on her hair and will not be allowed back to school until cleared by a doctor” I tried to explain it to the school and no one believed it was tapioca pudding. Not at least until I took a piece out of Brittney’s hair and ate it right there in front of the school while everyone was picking up their children!! Note to all NEVER DO THAT… people have weak stomachs and will puke. As my daughters teacher did, then another parent then another in all five teachers and parents all puked, the kids most were yelling for me to do it again. The lesson is if you run out of gel do not use TAPIOCA PUDDING use Vanilla or something anything with out rice it bonds to the hair…….

Home alone with the kids
My wife went to B.C.T (basic combat training) awhile back and while she was gone I was home alone with the kids. I was much better prepared for it this time however, about two years ago I was hurt at work pretty bad torn MCL and could not go to work for about five months, collecting Workers Comp was nice but not enough to pay all the bills so my wife went back to work. Ever since our first child was born my wife stayed home and took care of the kids while I went to work, it was better then leaving our children with strangers and I make pretty good money so there was really no need for her to work.
Any way there I was home, never having spent an entire day doing everything for the kids all by my self. I’ve seen adventures in baby sitting, I’ve heard my wife tell me about all the crazy things that go on during the day while I’m at work, I should have listened better!! My youngest daughter Alyssa was potty training my wife had our other two potty trained before their first birthday. Alyssa was taking a bit longer so now I would have to be the potty trainer. I didn’t see much of the other training that went on with the other two kids and I was scared I was doing something wrong cause Alyssa no matter what I did she always wound up naked. I would dress her in the morning and an hour later she would be naked. I later would find out she was doing this cause it was easier for her to get to the bathroom before she went on herself if she didn’t have to take off a lot of clothes. To make a long story short one day I was home with her and kept smelling an very foul odor every time I went into the kitchen. I searched the entire house vacuumed every carpet, mopped every floor and sprayed air freshener all around, the smell lingered.
When my other two returned from school they were sitting at the kitchen table doing their home work, complaining of a very strong odor. In my oldest daughters words “Dad it smells like poop in the kitchen” The two of them kept blaming the other for farting it was starting a fight so I had them help me look for the source of the smell. We could not find it at all. Dinner time came and as always my older two would help me since I am the type of guy who could burn water, Brittney my oldest daughter always helped my wife so she knew more about what to do then I did. My kids love that Hamburger Helper and that was great for me since that was so easy to make. About twenty minutes later my wife called and said she was running late so me and the kids sat down to eat. Yep in the kitchen, the foul smell seemed to have gone but it was only masked by the smell of the food cooking. As we ate the smell returned, none of us could eat not even the baby! I could not take it any more and I knew if the smell was still there when my wife came home she would not think it was as funny as I have to find it. I’m a guy a smell that can not be explained, that is funny to me sounds like something I would want to take to work! Another half hour goes by and still nothing I had given up when I sat back down at the kitchen table to try and pin point the location, my baby Alyssa came in and wanted something she talked kind of like Lassie but with grunts in place of barking. I tried to tell her to stop I had to find that smell before mommy got home but she kept right on grunting and pulling and pointing. Yep you guessed it she found the smell, If she could only talk more maybe I would have known the smell was right under my nose all along.
It appears that earlier that day she did not make it to the bathroom, instead she stopped at the kitchen and squatted under the table. After our first child we discovered that a glass table was so much easier to clean when the kids spilt any thing or decided they were going to draw on it so we bought one.
Moral of the story, never leave a color blind man to watch the kids who is too lazy to move the kitchen chairs out to mop, and can not see a huge pile of poop on the tile that is of the same color. Why do I bring this up now well yesterday my best friend and his wife came over with their newest child a young boy who will no doubt become a sharp shooter when he grows up. He had us all in the same situation except I found it much sooner this time. As soon as I put my shoes on, yes that’s right he managed to take a poop inside of my shoe!!! Maybe I should buy glass shoes but then again the glass table didn’t help all that much either..
